I was lucky enough to be a part of the Long Beach Grand Prix media this year. Of course when you are shooting for someone else, you are tasked with their priorities, not yours. In this case they wanted to see the people in the stands and the sponsor’s advertising as well as the cars and drivers.
This image of Marco Andretti dueling with Charlie Kimball through turn 2 was captured over the shoulder of a course worker and through the access hole in the fence where they wave the warning flags to the drivers. I love the head-on action as well as the crowds in the stands, the Ferris wheel in the background and the feeling of sensory overload in the many shapes and textures. It just all added to the excitement!
