Waiting for the Ice to Form

This polar bear sow and her cub rummage through a whale bone pile in the small settlement of Kaktovik, Alaska. Being marine mammals, they are stranded here on land where there is very little food for them. Not until the sea ice forms can they can head out to feed, seals being their primary prey.
