
Up to this point, including the previous day, it had been snowing heavily. We call snow in the Sierra, “Sierra Cement”, because it is heavy and sloppy-wet due to its high-water content. This is not the light and fluffy stuff you experience in the Rockies. It loads the trees with tons of icy snow.
On this late morning, the storm began to break. There was a lot of atmospheric mist in the air as the sun peeked through gaps in the clouds and the temperatures started to rise. If you look closely, you’ll see a lot of streaking blobs of Sierra Cement falling out of the trees as breezes circled through the tops of the pines. I was enveloped by both the forest and the changing conditions.
