An Osprey is constantly vigilant, looking all around for potential poachers threatening to steal its hard-earned fish dinner. At this particular moment I guess that includes me.
This image was captured at Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve in Huntington Beach, California. It is a crop of a 150-600 Sigma zoom lens set at 534mm. That means I was a lot farther away that this image suggests. (and it was 30 feet up in a tree) The trick in shooting wildlife is to not impact the behavior of the animal. These guys are used to seeing humans around. It only looked at me for a split second and went about its gruesome business of eating the fish.
