This is, of course, the Jefferson Memorial in Washington DC. Even though it seems a stately, formidable edifice, I was struck by how open and welcoming it is. A man approaches for a visit. A small crowd casually sits on its wide steps. One can wander at will and at ease into the memorial’s displays beneath the rotunda. I can even imagine passengers comfortably reflecting on the Memorial as they gaze down from the jet liner. Open to all, it’s just a day in the life of a very public place.
Captured some years ago, I’ve always liked what the human elements lent to this image. The moon was a bonus.
