While in Kenya, this was my “Jurassic Park” moment. It wasn’t a dinosaur, but it was by far the largest wild land animal I have ever encountered. Bear in mind that I was photographing from a game-drive vehicle with my camera about 6 feet above the ground. That means the horizon (my eye level) you see running across the image represents six feet high where it intersects this enormous African Bush Elephant. And that means I could have walked under this huge fellow without my head touching his belly. When he ambled past the vehicle, he came within a few feet from me, too close to photograph, I could hear his breathing and feel the vibrations from his footfalls. I just held my breath and didn’t make a sound. It was amazing!
