Survivor

You can imagine the tough life this Bristlecone Pine has led by just looking at it. Blowing ice and snow has scoured one side bare; the living branches all on the lee side. The soil that it is rooted in is nothing more than rocky talus. Most of the year there is zero precipitation and there is no doubt that conditions are extreme here at over 11,000 feet in elevation. Still, this determined tree not only survives but has so for probably at least a thousand years! Life always finds a way.
