What you are looking at is called “Manly Beacon”. Death Valley proper is in the distance behind with the Panamint Mountains beyond that. Many folks are under the impression that this formation is called Zabriskie Point when Zabriskie Point is in fact the view point where I’m standing. It’s the signature view of a tortured landscape baked by a relentless sun in one of the hottest places on Earth.
