There was a brilliant flash followed by a loud crack of thunder! I checked my camera to see if I got the shot. I did! That bolt of lightning was closer than I like it to be so within a minute I had picked up my gear and headed out of there. Even if I hadn’t gotten the shot I would have left. I was dry and relatively safe for the moment but it’s always better to err on the side of safety. The storm was moving and growing. I drove some miles away out of its path where I could continue to photograph it from a safe distance.
This strike, centered precisely above the sign was, of course, a happy accident. The title, “Montezuma’s Revenge” came to mind. It’s like the Gods had fired a warning shot and I wasn’t going to argue by hanging around for a possible “unhappy” accident!
