There is something about spring! Don’t get me wrong. I love photographing in winter with it’s stark, almost monochromatic severity. Spring offers something altogether different. There is a sense of renewal as the days begin to get warmer and that winter monochrome turns to an explosion of spring color. There is no better time to be outside in California. Everybody knows about our poppies but there are literally hundreds of other wildflowers carpeting everywhere from the coast to Death Valley.
For this image I didn’t have to go that far. We have some fantastic gardens in southern California. This is from the annual spring bloom of tulips at Descanso Gardens. A visit there is a great way to welcome a new spring!
