As many times as I have been along the California Central Coast I never tire of the herd of zebras that are sometimes seen grazing along famous Highway 1. Once a part of William Randolph Hearst’s private zoo, they now are free range animals on the old ranch lands. Here, the two zebras in the middle have been horsing around while the two on the outside were ignoring them, concentrating on grazing.
The zebras are not always within sight, so it’s a pleasant surprise when I do see them. The easiest way to spot the herd, by the way, is to first notice a bunch of cars pulled to the side of the road and tourists aiming their mobile phone cameras over the fence. Zebras in California are definitely roadside distractions!
