A few weeks ago I entered Yosemite Valley on the heels of a snowstorm that closed the roads in the Park for an entire day. The timing was perfect. The snow was hanging onto the trees and the drifts were still untracked by tourists.
It was a moment that would make Ansel Adams happy. I’m sure of that. With that thought, a black and white image seemed to be the right thing to do.
This is Bridalveil Fall on a cold afternoon without the usual breeze that pushes the falling water into its diaphanous trademark “veil”. From my vantage point across the Valley it was loud enough to hear not only the fall but the chunks of ice it carried over the cliff and crashing into the rocks below. Power and beauty in one of the world’s great places!
